At Parkes High School we are aiming to help our students develop to critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and to equip them with the knowledge, skills and understandings to flourish in the modern world. In order to provide authentic and contemporary learning experiences for our students we hope to engage them in a range of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and collaborative activities, in addition to their existing patterns of study. We are currently in the process of redesigning a general classroom space into a purpose-designed Project Based Learning/STEM classroom which will facilitate effective delivery of these subjects. We were successful in gaining a grant that will assist us in undertaking this project will allow us to purchase equipment and teaching resources, and for staff to undertake a range of professional learning activities.
