Aurora College is a virtual selective school which caters for gifted students in regional areas. Parkes High students who have passed the selective schools test for Aurora College undertake their virtual lessons for English, Maths and Science in a dedicated space in the Library.
Check the Aurora website for information, especialy about enrolments which open in the middle of each year.
Aurora lessons are delivered online, so students studying in this way must be not only high-achieving, but have a strong work ethic and be able to work independently. An Aurora College Coordinator (ACC) is appointed from PHS staff to support these students, a lot like a Year Advisor. In 2018 and 2019, this has been Ms Tracy Dawson.
Each year they attend two Residential camps, where they can meet their fellow students and teachers face to face, complete and present assessments, and participate in team work and problem solving activities.
