Charities and Appeals Committee

The Charities and Appeals Committee is continuing for another year. Through the support of Parkes High School students and staff the Charities and Appeals Committee are able to fundraise for a number of fabulous causes within our community including: Jeans for Genes Day, Bandanna Day, Loud Shirt Day, Stewart House and the Red Shield Appeal. The committee also raises money to sponsor a World Vision child from Laos – Lenh Nuanta.

Do It For Dolly

Parkes High participated in the Do It For Dolly fundraiser to bring awareness to Dolly’s Dream.

Dolly’s Dream was set up in memory of Amy ‘Dolly’ Everett, aged 14, who took her own life after an extended period of bullying and cyberbullying. Do It For Dolly Day is an initiative which hopes to extend the Dolly’s Dream message within the community and build  on the support available for those impacted by bullying.

It is to raise awareness about the issue of bullying, provide support, and deliver educational resources for parents whose kids may be bullied or bullying.

Students were asked to wear blue, which was Dolly’s favourite Colour.

Great Support for Bandanna Day

Bandanna Day was celebrated on October 26, and again Parkes High staff and students supported this great cause for teenagers suffering from cancer.

Miss Jenna Welsh and her Charities and Appeals helpers along with SRC students sold Bandannas all week.

The committee sold out of merchandise and raised over $1000 for CanTeen.

Students participated in fun lunchtime activities and games, including skipping while spreading the message of CanTeen and the importance to support young people affected by cancer.
